While achieving a PhD in the clinical application of infrared (IR) spectroscopy, I could not believe how a standardised technique that has transformed aerospace and the oil and gas industry has not made it into routine clinical use.

It’s because of the deep specialism required, bringing together physics, biology, descriptive statistics, artificial intelligence, medicine and more. It’s because of the bespoke and complex analytics that has to be applied. It’s because putting all of this together is expensive. That’s why its use is limited to larger, well-funded organisations.

My mission is to change this, to create a generalised model to streamline laboratories creating fast, affordable and accurate screening tests. After we have achieved this, the possibilities are endless
